Fuzzy - They follow a given path and damage the player on contact. They can be killed with the fireball, or with the star!

We've also added a few new badges in the shop, holiday shop and a new achievement
Just like the halloween event, event coins will spawn throughout the level that you can collect to redeem badges from the event shop!

2024-10-25 - Halloween Event and Content Patch!
[HALLOWEEN EVENT]
We have a halloween event running from October 25th until November 7th!
There's a new event shop, which requires the new event coins currency.
You find event coins either in the world as they replace normal coins, or by finding the special pumpkin, which awards 3 event coins
[AUDIO ENGINE]
We improved the audio engine quite a lot!
Originally, it was just a hardcoded mess that InfernoPlus copy-pasted from his other game, 20xx, which, if you know what game is, is a 3d-based game.
We remade the audio engine from the ground up, to make it more flexible and suited to our needs with future purposes of the project.
A more obvious change you will notice ingame, is that sounds are directional now. If a starman is to the left or to the right of you, the star music will reflect that in the part of your headphones it plays in.
Also, skin music packs are more customizable, as they can replace full on level music. Notable example is the SMB1 All Stars Mario skin.
We also took this opportunity to add volume sliders in the settings for master volume, music volume and sound volume.
[NEW MAPS]
The lobby has been remade! It is now themed around Peach's Castle. This awesome lobby has been made by Vie.
Also coming from Vie, the new halloween map is "Spooky Night". You can get an achievement from getting first place in it!
Kodashi by Pyriel returns from Mario Royale Deluxe, 27% more eastern than before!

We added a few new badges, one which is an achievement badge, and the others are purchasable in the event shop.

[SERVER REWRITE]
For the past few years Mario Royale Legacy's backend has been running on code and software that hadn't originally been made by us which introduced a couple problems that hadn't allowed us to make all the changes we wanted.
So for update 6.0 we decided to completely rewrite the server backend from scratch, and doing this has allowed us to make many security, quality and stability changes that would have previously been much more challenging to implement.

Minecraft World has been updated by Casini Loogi and Ray to look nicer, use the free roam camera in the cave level, and use newer textures
Mario Zone has been updated by Ray to use the free roam camera in certain areas and a few coin rooms which have been previously left out, are now in the map
SMB2 World 1 was updated by Vie and Pyriel to the new doors, keys, the vertical scrolling camera and the new "Tweeter" objects
Tricorn Kingdom music has been changed to sound more like real music
SML1 World 4 has been patched to fix a few issues with tiling/animations
Fixed fake ground underneath brick blocks in Lost World 5

[BACKGROUNDS]
You might know this one from Deluxe! Don't worry, we haven't made the same mistakes as then.
Backgrounds are images in either the background.. or, foreground depending on the Z layer which can be animated, and also do parallax!
It's a good way to quickly make pretty effects without torturing yourself with the tile spritesheet
[NEW TILES]
Level makers can make use of some new tiles we added, such as;
- Lock Both Axis & Unlock Both Axis
- Player Barrier & Enemy Barrier
- Half Tile Solid, Bumpable & Semisolid
[UI UPDATES]
The profile management UI and the shop UI have prettier interfaces

The chat UI is no longer rounded, the "chat" header is removed and the input bar is completely transparent
[SHOP]
You can search for specific items in the shop, and you can also filter them by "new", so you can immediately get all the new stuff!
[NEW ACHIEVEMENTS]
There are also many new achievements to be unlocked!
Most importantly, fifteen achievements have been added for reaching statistic milestones, 5 for each: wins, kills and collecting coins.
Achievements have also been added for beating the new Retra 2 and XP 2 maps, but also for beating the new hell maps, oh and also Sand Dunes has an achievement.
[HELL CHANGES]
Since the hell gamemode has never really worked with multiple people, we made some changes to it.
Hell is now singleplayer, so the moment you join the lobby you are the only one who can be there. Hit the vote block to the start the game
To reduce downtime, you are given infinite lives, and also the stage resets between lives.
[PVP CHANGES]
Some, but not nearly as impactful changes have been made to PVP:
You can only have one life and no more in PVP.
The chat feed shows the method someone has been killed.
When a player wins in PVP, their total amount of kills will be shown in the chat feed. This also applies to the vanilla race mode but you will be seeing it most here.
When you kill someone in PVP you will see a rising label above you telling you who you killed. Same thing applies from the previous note.
[COIN REWARDS]
Your account is rewarded with this many coins after:
- 100 coins for getting first place
- 50 coins for getting second place
- 25 coins for getting third place
- 75 coins for killing a player
- 50 coins for reaching the top of the flagpole
[EDITOR IMPROVEMENTS]
Added a settings button to toggle some features
Added a checkerboard grid which can be toggled
You can toggle an option to only see the current layer you are editing
You can change your brush size in the tiles menu
[MISC CHANGES]
You can hover over the players online counter in the menu to see how many players are in the menu and how many are ingame
Added "out of bounds" warp which teleports the player somewhere when they fall out of bounds. This is usually for decreasing filesizes and saving time by not needing to fill the bottom with warp tiles
Netcode packets have been changed to send JSON data instead of binary data which is more flexible for us to send more different kinds of data easier
PVP win-handling has been made more secure
Better control-stopping when the chat input is highlighted
Cheep cheeps can now sway more accurately to SMB1
Added a second fly mode to green koopas where they go from side to side
Also cheep cheeps have a sway mode that work similarly where they go from side to side

Badges
You can now equip cosmetic badges in your profile for other players to see
Badges can be obtained through a couple of ways: by purchasing them in the shop or getting achievements
When you obtain a badge, just go into the profile menu, click on "badges" and select them

These achievements only reward badges for now
Redesigned Shop and Profile User Interfaces
The UI of the shop and profile menus have been given a nice rework to look like an actual videogame and not something put together in ten minutes!
Level Grouping
This is more of an 'invisible' change
When a random level is picked from the level pool in the lobby, it picks from a group of levels instead of giving each level an equal chance to be picked
This was done to reduce the chances of similar levels being picked too frequently, such as the Lost levels or Special levels
New Level: RePaiNT
This is a new level created by Pyriel for Mario Royale!
It is marked as "RE1" in the level select, in the "other" group, if you want to give it a go yourself
New Level: Retra's Challenge
Like, RePaiNT, this level was made by Vie for Mario Royale!
Marked as "Retra" in the level select, in the "other" group
You can also get the Retra badge by completing it in a public lobby
New Objects: Checkpoint, Rex, Banzai Bill, Path-Following Platforms
Checkpoints! Touch them and that's where you will respawn the next time you die. These have been added to most levels as of now
Also added the Rex and Banzai Bill from Super Mario World, and that's where they have been added!
Path-following platforms arent in any levels now, but they basically follow a path instead of only going between two spots
Community submission quality control changes
While in development, we had a quick look through the community submitted content that was in the game and a sizable amount of them.. simply weren't the best
Because of that, we decided removed a chunk of them to make room for better skins in the future
Some levels also weren't up to par, such as: Metroid and XEXYZ
Global coin counts have been reset
Global coin counts have been reset to give new players a fair chance at making it on the coin leaderboards, as well as to make room for the new cosmetic badges

"Currency" coins and "Leaderboard" coins have been separated

Our Discord webhook will also now show the map and each of the top 3 player's time in the end-game results.

It didn't really work, it only supported regular jumps and didn't work on mobile, which is why

Updated control rebinding app
Added a new "Clear" button next to every control. This button clears the binding of that
specific control.
When setting a control, the color of the control changes, like the headers.
Added cooldown to multi coin blocks
In the original SMB1, after you hit a multi coin block, the block had a ~270ms cooldown, this
has been added to Mario Royale to remain faithful to the original NES classic.

You can no longer update your nickname if it's less than 4 letters long, or if it's more than
20 letters long.

It was a disgrace to die because of an miscalculation of the star time, so we fixed it.
You can no longer get stuck in the axe section of the castles.
When you're on the podium, you can now use the jump button to return to the lobby. Also works with

When you're on the podium, you can now see the statistics of your performance in the match.
For now the only stats you'll see are players killed and coins collected.

Lobby has been adjusted to celebrate 1000 discord members! We noticed people were trying to jump out of the
lobby boundaries from the cloud so we replaced the lobby music with Van Halen's Jump in 8 bit. Never give up.
You'll reach that flower eventually.
An offline level editor is now available on
GitHub. This editor is still a heavy W.I.P.

Player count reduced to 75 from 99
Both the server and the game client struggle to handle a full 99 players so I'm reducing it for now to
help alleviate performance issues on both the backend server and the client renderer.
I also feel like 99 players is a bit overly chaotic right at the start, so hopefully this will make it
more manageable.
After all... Most battle royales spread their players over a large area. This game dumps them all in 1
place.
